"This social hatred is, for me, a constant presence. I cannot, for example, just sit down, relax, and watch TV like any 'normal' person does . . . for example, shows like 'Only Love Counts', where the love between two people is praised as the most beautiful and the most magnificent thing. I feel that my love for the boys is also the most beautiful and the most magnificent thing. But I know that I am pretty much alone in this view. The same people who sit in front of the TV with a handkerchief, weeping with emotion over 'Only Love Counts', would be consumed with fury upon encountering my own views on love and affection – and I would be done for. I have no more chosen my own inclination than a straight or gay person can choose his. But I have to live with it, and it is a living hell. I personally am able to accept my inclinations because I'm certain that I'm not harming anyone; and even if all the prejudices are true, there is no way that I could ever do to a child what society has done to me."
