The California Democrat intends to

expand on the ban that expired in 2004,

by including handguns and shotguns,

in addition to rifles. She would

decrease from two to one the number

of cosmetic features on a gun to

have it be considered an “assault

weapon.” This means that if a gun

has just one item like a pistol grip

or bayonet lug, then it is illegal.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law

the same ban in New York last week.

In other words, this isn’t really

an “assault weapons” ban as much as

it is a gun ban, period.

• New York Senate Passes Draconian Bill

in the Middle of the Night »

The New York Senate has passed a gun

bill following governor Andrew Cuomo’s

attack on the Second Amendment during

his state of the state address earlier

this month.

The legislation now moves on to the

Assembly for passage.

If enacted, owners of firearms

classified as “assault weapons” by

the state will be forced to register

them with the police.

A firearm will be classified as an

assault weapon if it has one or more

cosmetic military feature, such as a

pistol grip or a bayonet mount. Owners

will be required to “re-certify” their

weapons after five years.

The bill contains a raft of additional

regulations imposed on law-abiding

firearms owners, including ;

• Limiting magazines to seven bullets

down from the national standard of 10.

• Making ‘unsafe storage’ of so-called

assault weapons a misdemeanor.

• Outlawing internet sales of assault

weapons.

• Requiring retailers that sell

ammunition to register with the

state, run background checks on

purchasers, and maintain a database

of all sales.

• Mandating mental health therapists

report their patients if they made

a credible threat to use a gun

illegally (the police would then

confiscate the firearm).

Owning more than two guns in NYS

will soon be a felony, too.

been previously convicted of a felony

in this chapter within the five years

second amendment activists are incensed

about an upcoming bill in the Illinois

legislature which, according to the

Illinois State Rifle Association,

would leave gun owners with, “a very

short window to turn in your guns to

the State Police to avoid prosecution.”

A suburban New York newspaper that

sparked an uproar among gun enthusiasts

by publishing names and addresses of

residents holding pistol permits is

now planning to publish even more

identities of permit-toting locals.

Further names and addresses will be

added as they become available to a

map originally published on Dec. 24

in the White Plains, New York-based

Journal News, the newspaper said.

The next batch of names will be

permit holders in suburban Putnam

County, New York, where the county

clerk told the newspaper it is still

compiling information.

in them to protect themselves?” Rob

 The New York Senate has passed a gun
bill following governor Andrew Cuomo’s
attack on the Second Amendment during
his state of the state address earlier
this month.

 A suburban New York newspaper that
sparked an uproar among gun enthusiasts
by publishing names and addresses of
residents holding pistol permits is
now planning to publish even more
identities of permit-toting locals.
  
 Further names and addresses will be
added as they become available to a
map originally published on Dec. 24
in the White Plains, New York-based
Journal News, the newspaper said.
  
 The next batch of names will be
permit holders in suburban Putnam
County, New York, where the county
clerk told the newspaper it is still
compiling information.

made a map for criminals to use to
find homes to rob that have no guns
in them to protect themselves?” Rob
Seubert of Silver Spring, Maryland,
posted on the newspaper’s web site.
